Astur-Leonese – The Articles

THE ARTICLES in Astur-Leonese:

Asturian Masculine Feminine Neuter
Singular El, L’, ‘L La, L’ Lo
Plural Los Les
Leonese Masculine Feminine Neuter
Singular El, L’, ‘L La, L’ Lo
Plural Los Las
Mirandese Masculine Feminine Neuter
Singular L La, L’
Plural Ls Las
  1. The Neuter is used with some uncountable nouns and to refer to the idea or the fact of being. For example: lo arreglau – that which has been fixed
  2. El becomes L’ before a vowel or h- (but not before -).  It becomes ‘l after a vowel.
  3. La becomes L’ before a- or ha-.

 

EXAMPLES: (Asturian)

El páxaru – The bird

Los páxaros – The birds

L’amigu – The (male) friend

Los amigos – The (male) friends

Coméi’l pexe – I ate the fish

La culiebra – The snake

Les culiebres – The snakes

L’abella – The bee

Les abelles – The bees
